Hearing God
I have really been working on my listening skills, especially when it comes to hearing from God. I obviously want to do what He wants me to do, in all situations but I have often times found it difficult to know what that is. I’ve been reading the book “Walking with God: Talk to Him. Hear from Him. Really.” by John Eldridge (I love and recommend this one and his other books too) and have been adopting some of his practices in my everyday life.
That being said, a great guy from my past recently made his way back into my consciousness and I have been debating whether or not to reconnect with him. I was going to suggest to him that we hang out, so that I can see what’s going on with him (whether he’s currently dating anyone) and see if maybe, there might still be a spark of romantic interest between us. I discussed my plan with my journal, my sisters, my mother and my friends. Everyone thought that it was a good and harmless idea. As I was gearing up to contact him, I realized that I had consulted everyone except the one who I should ultimately be listening to. Gosh, I am thick sometimes. So before going ahead with my plan, I asked God to please give me a clear sign of what I should do, either way.
That night, I opened my Instagram and the first post to come up was a screen shot of a few bible verses without the corresponding reference so I wasn’t sure where they were in the bible. The verses said “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” After reading that post, I thought that maybe it was my sign and I went to bed. The next morning, I was amazed when I opened my bible and those exact verses, Isaiah 43: 18-19, were part of my reading for the day. I asked God for a sign and He clearly showed me (twice) to leave the past in the past because He is doing something new!
If you are having a hard time with a decision, go to God first and ask Him to reveal to you what He thinks about the situation and go from there. Trust God for your future! I promise it will be worth it.
Blessings,
Angela
