Bridge Thoughts

I’ve been feeling stuck recently. I’ve been dealing with some persistent health issues and using them as an excuse as to why I have stagnated. With thoughts running through my brain like, I am so sick of feeling this way, I am exhausted, I should be better by now, etc, it’s no wonder that I am feeling frustrated and stuck. As a life coach, being mired in my own stuff is kind of embarrassing but also completely normal and is why coaches have coaches. I coach myself every day but I also need an outside perspective, to help me see the things that I cannot see on my own. My goal is to feel excited and inspired but I have been feeling frustrated and exhausted. I turned to my coach and she guided me through an exercise to help get me out of my negative thought cycle. Because our thoughts create our feelings, I needed to change the thoughts behind my negative feelings into thoughts that would inspire and excite me. Since the leap between believable thoughts was too large for me, she helped me find some “bridge thoughts” that I could use to feel better in the meantime. Bridge or ladder thoughts are thoughts that are used to bridge the gap between two opposing thoughts. Because my brain couldn’t jump from frustrated to excited, I came up with bridge thoughts to help me get closer. In a matter of minutes, I went from feeling frustrated to feeling bored and then from feeling bored to feeling hopeful. While I haven’t quite gotten back to excited and inspired, I am so much closer than I was before. The use of bridge thoughts has helped me a lot. When I can’t seem to get my head to where I want it to be, bridge thoughts get me within reach and help me feel better. If you are curious about using bridge thoughts in your own life, reach out to me and I’ll show you how.

Blessings,

Angela
